Richmond Primary Care Centre
BaS LIFT inherited this project when a site and outline planning permission had already been secured by NHS Birmingham East and North. However, following a detailed strategic review, an alternative site was found that would better suit future service needs.
Situated on a prominent corner position in the Stechford area, the new landmark centre is set to play an important role in local regeneration. A design feature of the centre is a striking 18 metre long community art installation which runs across the front glazed façade of the building.
“As a local resident of Stechford who has lived in the area for over 25 years, it is pleasing to see a building of such high quality and design which has been developed using a partnership approach with the local community. The art work that was commissioned and involved many young people across the area has given a stamp of individuality to the building and given the local young residents a sense of ownership.”
Janet Down, local resident
"I am a Podiatrist working at the Richmond and I feel proud to be working there every time I enter the building. I have had patients telling me how wonderful the building is and how it makes them feel better than when they came to our previous premises, which were rather dull and depressing."
Liz Shrive, Podiatrist
Throughout the entire development process the centre’s accommodation remained true to the principle of flexible design to provide the perfect catalyst for the amalgamation of four separate GP practices from the surrounding area to facilitate joint working, integration and improved services for the community. The Richmond Primary Care Centre truly is a community-wide solution to health inequalities in Stechford.
