Estate Rationalisation Report

Brief
As part of the Commissioners Investment and Asset Management Strategy (CIAMS) BaS LIFT undertook a review of Birmingham East and North’s eastern estate, assessing the options for estate rationalisation.

Client: NHS Birmingham East and North

Location: Eastern estate (NHS Birmingham East and North)

Timescales: 4 Months

Briefed: March 2010

Report: June 2010

Solution
Health centres within the locality were assessed with regard to suitability, functionality, fitness for purpose, condition, type of accommodation, services provided and utilisation. The estate rationalisation report detailed the quality of the current estate and its service delivery, while also offering recommendations for investment and disinvestment, taking into consideration the commissioning intentions for the area.

Challenges
Specific knowledge of commissioning strategy was needed to take account of each centre’s future plans and how these would impact on any recommendations made, timing and co-ordination of multiple on-site surveys, broad location requiring validation and collation of a large amount of PCT data.
