Audiology Suite Conversion

Brief
To provide a state-of-the-art audiology suite so that regional specialist audiology services could be switched to the Primary Care Centre (PCC).

Client: Solihull Care Trust

Location: Chelmsley Wood Primary Care Centre, Solihull

Timescales: 17 Months
(due to significant site investigation, M&E service diversions and lead-in time for specialist equipment procurement)

Briefed: July 2008
On Site: September 2009
Completed: December 2009.

Solution
The new booth was to be originally located on the ground floor of the PCC which required the complete removal of floor screed to enable a level access threshold, this however impacted on the floor loading capability of the room.  A review of specifications and documents supplied by the Care Trust allowed us to recommend a revised location for the booth, shortened the project time by 2 weeks and saved circa £25,000 in unnecessary building works.

Challenges
Constrained budget, DDA implications, load bearing impact of the booth on the building, diversion of critical services, confined area and ensuring the building remained fully operational during works.

Services
Structural survey, M&E Review and Project Management
